Storm Ha Long is rapidly strengthening, possibly becoming a typhoon today, October 6, while storm No. 11 is weakening.

The latest storm information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that at 2:00 a.m. on October 6, the center of storm Ha Long was at 25.3 degrees North latitude, 141.9 degrees East longitude, 2,115 km east-northeast of Luzon.

Maximum winds near the center of the storm are 100 km/h, gusting to 125 km/h. The storm moved slowly in the Northwest direction. The storm is still active outside the Philippine Area of Respect (PAR).

Storm forecast models show that Ha Long is likely to rapidly strengthen in the next 24 hours, and may become a typhoon today (October 5).

According to PAGASA, a subtropical high pressure mass in the east could cause Ha Long to deviate from the path and not enter the PAR, but another high pressure mass near mainland China could push the storm westward, allowing it to enter the edge of the PAR, towards the East Sea.

If Ha Long enters the Philippine PAR monitoring area, this storm will be locally named Quedan, said a PAGASA representative.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), Typhoon Ha Long formed early on October 5 in the waters near the Ogasawara Islands, more than 1,000 km south of Tokyo. Strong winds, heavy rains, thunderstorms and high waves will continue to affect the Ogasawara area on October 6.

Taiwan (China) meteorologist Wu Der-rong commented that the probability of Typhoon Ha Long making a direct landfall in Taiwan (China) is very low, but the model scenarios are still fluctuating, so it is necessary to continue monitoring.

Meanwhile, storm No. 11 Matmo at 6:00 a.m. on October 6 was located at about 22.0 degrees North latitude; 107.3 degrees East longitude, in the mainland of Guangxi Province (China). The strongest wind speed has decreased to level 8 (62-74km/h), gusting to level 10. In the next 3 hours, the storm will move in a West-Northwest direction, at a speed of about 20 km/h.

It is forecasted that today, storm No. 11 will continue to move deep inland and weaken further, and by this afternoon (October 6), it will become a low pressure area in the Northern mountainous region.

Due to the impact of the storm, the mainland area from Quang Ninh and Lang Son still has strong winds of level 6, some places have level 7, gusting to level 9 today. Thus, the strong winds caused by storms in other places in the North will not be too worrying.

The Northern Delta and Thanh Hoa will have rain with a common amount of 50-150 mm, locally very heavy rain over 200 mm.

Warning of a very high risk of causing flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas, flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas. Pay special attention to Lang Son, Cao Bang, Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai.

Other places in Nghe An to Lam Dong and the South will have little rain today. From Quang Tri to Da Nang and the East from Quang Ngai to Lam Dong, there will be sunshine all day, quite hot, 32-34 degrees Celsius.

Regarding Hanoi weather forecast on October 6: The lowest temperature is 24-26 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature is 28-30 degrees Celsius. Cloudy, with moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain.
