On August 11 (local time), the Hungarian Parliament officially elected Mr. András Baka, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, as the new President of the country with 140 votes in favor and 6 votes against.

This result marks a clear turning point for the new government after winning the National Assembly election in April.

Regarding foreign affairs, Mr. Baka affirmed that Hungary is part of Europe and restoring relations with international partners is an important priority. This message is seen as a guiding principle throughout his term as head of state.

Prime Minister Magyar emphasized that the President plays an important role in promoting national unity. The head of the Hungarian government expressed his belief that in his new position, President Baka will promote his experience, knowledge and professional independence to protect the rule of law, while contributing to building the foundation for Hungary's new Constitutional system.

Slovak President Pellegrini sent congratulations to President Baka, expressing his belief that the good neighborly relationship between the two countries will continue to develop on the basis of mutual respect, trust and open dialogue, contributing to the stability, security and prosperity of the region.

Sharing on social network X, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that the Parliament's election of Mr. Baka as President is an important step in Hungary's renovation process. According to the Ukrainian leader, this event not only brings greater confidence to Hungarian society, but also contributes to strengthening the core values and principles of the EU. Mr. Zelensky expressed his willingness to cooperate with the new Hungarian President on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit.

Mr. Baka is 73 years old this year, and used to hold the position of Chief Justice of the Hungarian Supreme Court from 2009-2011. It is expected that he will be sworn in on August 19.
