The Vande Bharat high-speed train, introduced as the fastest train in India, makes its first trip from New Delhi to the Indian city of Varanasi. But a collision with a cow caused four carriages to lose power and damaged the braking system the next day, according to a representative of the Indian Railway.
The country's domestic high-speed train system is expected to reach a maximum speed of 180 km/h, 20% higher than previous fastest trains. The new ship is expected to be put into commercial operation on February 17. The railway authority said that the train is expected to reduce the time on the 850km journey from Delhi to Varanasi from 14 hours to 8 hours.
Cattle traveling on roads and railways in India is common, especially in the state of Uttar Pradesh, where the collision occurred.
