Xinhua News Agency and the Thai Ministry of Digital Economy and Social Affairs (MDES) said that the TH-AI Passport program officially started operating from August 31, aiming to expand access to technology and AI skills training for people.
According to the TH-AI Passport platform, participants have free access to Pro or Premium AI tools for one year, from August 31, 2026 to August 31, 2027. The program offers 5 million slots for Thai citizens aged 15, integrating more than 30 AI models from more than 14 providers.
Among the tools currently available on the platform are ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, DeepSeek and Meta AI.
Xinhua said that more than 1.3 million people have registered in less than 2 weeks before the program officially opened. Registered people include students, workers, entrepreneurs and people in many areas across Thailand.
The program is implemented in the context that the rate of AI use in Thailand is still lower than the global average.
According to data from the AI Economics Institute of Microsoft cited by MDES, 12.4% of Thai people of working age used generative AI in the first quarter of 2026, up from 9.1%. This rate is lower than the global average of 17.8% and Singapore 63.4%.
MDES aims to increase Thailand's AI usage rate to 20% by 2027, from 10.7% in 2025.
In May 2026, MDES said that the program was purchased in a package of 5 million usage rights for 12 months, with a cost of about 27.5 baht (about 0.85 USD) per month for each right, much lower than about 600 baht (about 18.5 USD) if individuals register private commercial AI services.
Thai Minister of Digital Economy and Social Affairs - Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob - said that competition in the AI era not only depends on technology but also on the ability to develop human resources. Therefore, TH-AI Passport aims to help people both use and develop creativity with AI.
According to MDES, the program also includes training, workshops and competitions on AI use. About 2,222 community digital centers nationwide are included in the program, along with courses for about 4,000 people.
AI-using data after being anonymous is also oriented to serve the development of ThaiLLM, the Thai AI platform, thereby supporting the goal of building national AI capacity.
