The birthday gift that Matthew Robson, born in 1992, now living in Taunton, England, receives from his father every year is an 18-year bottle of whisky, BBC reported.
Accordingly, Mr. Pete, Matthew's father, spends about 5,000 pounds (6,619 USD) on 28 bottles of Macallan single single malt birthday gifts for his son each year.
To date, the collection has 28 bottles and is currently worth more than 40,000 pounds (nearly 53,000 USD). This wine collection is currently for sale.
The 28-year-old shared that whisky may not be the best gift for a boy, but with the strict "never open them" rule, it has now become a "bunch of eggs".
"Every year I receive wine as a birthday gift. I think it was a rather strange gift because I was too young to start drinking alcohol. But I was given strict instructions, never, never open them. I tried my best and succeeded when they were all intact," Matthew said.
His father - Mr. Pete, a resident of Milnathort, Scotland, said that the first bottle of whisky in 1974 was purchased to celebrate his son's birth in 1992.
I think it would be very interesting if I bought a bottle every year and my son would have 18 bottles of wine for 18 years on his 18th birthday, he said. Mr. Pete also affirmed that alcohol was not the only gift his son received from his parents.
Matthew now hopes to sell his collection for £40,000 (nearly $53,000) and use the money as a deposit to buy a house.
This birthday whisky collection has been described by wine broker Mark Littler as "a perfect collection".
The value of Macallan has increased sharply over the past 5 to 10 years. Having a large collection of wine bottles is a real selling advantage" - he said.
According to the whisky expert, there are many people interested in the collection, mainly those who buy in New York, the US and Asia.
