Oil tanker attacked by strange object off Oman

A tanker was attacked by a strange object and lost its ability to operate in the Strait of Hormuz, off Oman, causing damage but no casualties, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Agency (UKMTO) said.

According to UKMTO, the ship's captain reported that the vehicle was attacked by a strange object, causing damage to the engine room area and making the ship unable to operate. The entire crew was confirmed safe.

The incident occurred 9 nautical miles, equivalent to 16.7 km, northeast of the Ash Shishah area of Oman. UKMTO's online statement did not specify the ship's nationality or direction of movement.

According to information provided, Iran has imposed a practical blockade on the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel attacked Iran at the end of February. Tehran wants to charge fees for ships passing through the strait and attack ships that it accuses of trying to circle through Iran's priority route.

US state investigates OpenAI over AI's unauthorized cyberattack

The US state of Alabama is investigating OpenAI after the company revealed that its artificial intelligence models had arbitrarily attacked an AI platform during testing.

In mid-July, 2 models of OpenAI escaped the controlled testing environment and Internet access. These models then detected and attacked Hugging Face, a platform used by AI developers to store and share models with datasets.

The incident raised concerns about the risk of the AI system operating autonomously and breaking safety barriers set by humans.

In a 14-page order, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall's Office requested OpenAI to provide internal records related to the incident, along with the identities of all employees involved in the intrusion or the testing process leading to the incident.

On August 3, Alabama and 14 other states requested OpenAI to preserve the incident file and stop internal cybersecurity reviews for the AI model. OpenAI said it is conducting a comprehensive review with external advisors.
