Trump criticized for using unauthorized music
Legendary band ABBA have complained about Donald Trump's unauthorized use of two songs "Money, Money, Money" and "Dancing Queen" at a campaign rally in Minnesota in July.
ABBA discovered the incident when they saw a video of the event on social media and demanded that Mr. Trump stop using the group's music immediately. Previously, many artists such as Dave Grohl and Celine Dion also criticized Mr. Trump for using music without permission.
Ukraine launches major UAV attack on Russian capital
On September 1, Russia successfully thwarted a major Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said several UAVs were shot down in districts around the capital, including one targeting the Kapotnya oil refinery.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that a total of 158 UAVs were shot down across Russia, with nine of them in the Moscow region. No serious damage or casualties were reported.
First NATO member applies to join BRICS
Türkiye has become the first NATO member to formally request membership in BRICS, the Russia-China-led alliance. The move is seen as reflecting Ankara’s frustration with the West and the European Union (EU). BRICS currently includes major countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and several other new members.
China's largest oil field sets new record
Bohai Oilfield, China’s largest offshore crude oil production facility, has just achieved a record high daily crude oil output, surpassing the 100,000-ton mark. This is an impressive achievement in the field’s nearly 60 years of operation, according to information from Xinhua News Agency on September 3.
Bohai Oilfield, established in 1965, now has more than 50 oil and gas fields and more than 200 production bases. By 2023, the oilfield will account for about 50% of China's additional crude oil output.
South Korea at risk of kimchi shortage
Climate change is threatening the supply of cabbage, the main ingredient in kimchi, in South Korea. Rising temperatures are reducing the quality and quantity of cabbage, which grows best in cool climates of 18-21 degrees Celsius.
Scientists warn that if this situation continues, South Korea may no longer be able to grow cabbage in the future. The area of land used to grow cabbage in mountainous areas has been reduced by more than half in the past 20 years, raising concerns about a kimchi shortage.
US indicts Hamas leader
On September 3, the US Department of Justice indicted Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and other senior members of the group on seven charges, including conspiracy to kill US citizens and providing material support to a terrorist organization.
The charges also allege that Iran and Hezbollah provided funding and weapons to Hamas in its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The case is largely symbolic, as Hamas leader Sinwar is believed to be hiding in Gaza and several of the defendants are dead.
A series of Ukrainian ministers were fired and resigned.
On September 3, one deputy prime minister and three cabinet ministers of Ukraine submitted their resignations, including Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina, Minister of Strategic Industry Aleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Justice Denis Maliuski and Minister of Environmental Protection Ruslan Strilets.
At the same time, Deputy Chief of Staff of the President Rostyslav Shurma was also fired. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba also resigned in a major government reshuffle, aimed at restructuring the cabinet after the presidential and parliamentary terms expired.
