A 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Aceh province in western Indonesia in the early morning of April 8 local time. The information was confirmed by the Indonesian meteorological, climatic and Geophysical Agency.
According to the agency, the earthquake occurred at around 2:48 a.m., with the center of the earthquake located about 62 km southeast of Sinabang city in Simeulue district, Aceh province.
The seismic impact was determined to be 30 km below the seabed. Initially, the authorities announced the earthquake's intensity as 6.2 richter, but later adjusted it to 5.9 richter.
There have been no reports of any casualties or damage related to the earthquake. The authorities have not yet issued a warning about the risk of sunflowers after the earthquake.
Indonesia is located on the "Pacific Ring Road", an area with strong geological activity with a high frequency of earthquakes and volcanic explosions. Therefore, earthquakes like the one that just happened in Aceh are not uncommon for this country.
