Another Chinese super ship carrying 4 million barrels of oil leaves Hormuz

Thanh Hà |

Two Chinese super oil tankers, carrying 4 million barrels of crude oil, left the Strait of Hormuz on May 20 after waiting in the Persian Gulf for more than 2 months.

These two super oil tankers are among the few super crude oil tankers of Iraq that left the Persian Gulf this month through the route that Iran has ordered the ships to use.

The Chinese flagship Yuan Gui Yang received 2 million barrels of Iraqi Basrah crude oil on February 27, one day before the Iranian conflict broke out.

According to data, this ship was leased by Unipec, the commercial branch of Asia's largest oil refinery Sinopec. It is expected that the Yuan Gui Yang ship will arrive at Shuidong port, near Maoming city, Guangdong province, China on June 4 to unload goods.

Data shows that the super-large oil tanker Ocean Lily flying the Hong Kong (China) flag imported 1 million barrels of al-Shaheen crude oil from Qatar and 1 million barrels of Basrah crude oil from Iraq at the end of February and early March.

The ship Ocean Lily is owned by China's major oil and gas group Sinochem. It is expected that this super ship will arrive at Quanzhou port, Fujian province in eastern China on June 5 to unload goods.

Last week, the super ship Yuan Hua Hu carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil left the Strait of Hormuz and headed to Zhoushan port in eastern China.

In other developments related to Hormuz, Xinhua News Agency on May 20 quoted a report on the UK shipping industry's Lloyd's List as saying that waterway traffic through the Hormuz Strait has recovered significantly in the past week as trade related to Iran increased. At least 54 ships passed through the Hormuz Strait from May 11 to 17, up from only 25 ships in the previous week.

This increase is taking place in the context of a sharp increase in trade activities related to Iran. A liquefied natural gas tanker owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company entered the waters of the Gulf region and turned off the automatic identification system.

Data from the maritime analysis company Windward based in London, UK, shows that 19 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz on May 18, including 9 in and 10 out.

Incoming traffic mainly includes cargo ships flying flags of countries such as India and Sri Lanka. Outcoming traffic includes 1 oil tanker and 9 cargo ships, 5 of which fly Iranian flags.
