On December 22, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban gave a remarkable analysis of the motivations behind the prolongation of the conflict in Ukraine. Sharing on social network X, he commented that the current continuous conflict does not bring benefits to the masses but is only serving the calculations of some specific ethnic groups.
Mr. Orban has detailed 3 groups of subjects that he said he wanted the conflict to continue.
The first group mentioned is politicians with warm ideology. He said they are those who still blindly and dangerously believe that they can defeat a nuclear power like Russia on the military front, despite unpredictable risks to global security.
The second group, and also the most obvious beneficiary, is the military arms and equipment manufacturing corporations. For these units, the longer the conflict lasts, the more orders arrive and profits skyrocket. Europe's instability has become a gold mine for the defense industry.
The last group mentioned by the Hungarian Prime Minister is the banking world and financial tycoons, who have "wed" huge sums of assets on the scenario of Russia's military defeat and are waiting to recover capital and interest from geopolitical fluctuations.
In contrast to the interests of these groups, the Hungarian Prime Minister stressed that the European people deserve a better life and that the oldest continent in need at the moment is peace.
Since the conflict broke out, the Hungarian government has always held a different stance from most Western countries. Budapest has consistently supported the issue through peaceful means and diplomatic negotiations rather than increasing military tensions.
Mr. Orban has also repeatedly expressed concern about the negative impact of current policies on the regional economy.
According to the Hungarian leader's calculations, the prolonged conflict combined with economic sanctions against Russia has caused heavy losses for Hungary itself.
He estimated that the country's economy has suffered losses ranging from 21 to 32 billion USD. This figure is the clearest proof of why Budapest always pushes for a solution to end the conflict as soon as possible to stabilize the socio-economic situation.
