At the invitation of Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico paid an official visit to Vietnam from April 12 to 14, 2026.
The visit takes place in the context of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Slovakia developing positively.
The visit is an opportunity for the two sides to continue to strengthen political trust, promote substantive cooperation and open up new orientations in bilateral relations.

Vietnam and Slovakia have a solid foundation of relations. In 1993, when Slovakia separated from the Czechoslovak Federation, Vietnam and Slovakia declared to inherit the relationship between Vietnam and Czechoslovakia before, taking February 2, 1950 as the date of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Over the past 76 years, relations between Vietnam and Slovakia have developed well, and both sides have valued the traditional friendly relationship that has been built since before.

Prime Minister Robert Fico is a veteran and experienced politician in Slovakia.
He served as Prime Minister for various terms (2006-2010; 2012-2018) and was re-elected after winning the September 2023 election.
During his term in power, Prime Minister Robert Fico always showed good feelings and valued promoting relations with Vietnam.
He has had practical support policies, notably creating conditions for the Vietnamese community to be officially recognized as the 14th ethnic minority in Slovakia.
He also made two official visits to Vietnam (in 2008 and 2016), thereby contributing to strengthening the traditional friendly relations between the two countries.
With warm feelings for Vietnam, the official visit to Vietnam by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is an opportunity for the two sides to continue to strengthen political trust, promote substantive cooperation and open up new orientations in bilateral relations.
