President Putin expresses views on the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the need for nuclear weapons in Ukraine has not arisen and he hopes that will not happen.

President Vladimir Putin shared this in an interview with Russian state television posted on Telegram on May 4.

Responding to a reporter's question about Ukraine's airstrikes on Russia, President Putin stressed: "There is no need to use those nuclear weapons and I hope they will not be used."

According to President Putin, Russia has the power and means to bring the conflict in Ukraine to an end that it would like.

"We have enough strength and means to bring what has begun in 2022 to a reasonable conclusion, a result that Russia wishes for," President Putin stressed.

In February 2022, the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out. Moscow's forces now control about 20 percent of Ukraine, including much of southern and eastern Ukraine.

In recent weeks, President Vladimir Putin has expressed his desire to negotiate a peaceful solution.

US President Donald Trump has also said he wants to end the conflict in Ukraine through diplomatic means.

Concerns about nuclear escalation have been raised by many US officials since the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out in early 2022.

Former CIA Director William Burns said there was a real risk that Russia could use nuclear weapons with Ukraine by the end of 2022.
