On July 10 (local time), according to Xinhua, US President Donald Trump announced that he would launch a large-scale attack on Iran if Tehran carried out its assassination threat.
In a post on the social network Truth Social, Mr. Trump said that the US military has been put on combat readiness and plans to respond if Iran takes any action against him.
If Iran makes a threat to assassinate me, the US will launch 1,000 missiles, and immediately after that thousands more missiles will be deployed immediately," Trump wrote.
The US leader also affirmed that military orders had been issued.
According to him, the US military is "ready, fully capable and determined" to conduct a military campaign to completely destroy all areas of Iran.
Mr. Trump said that this readiness status will be maintained for 1 year, and may be extended if necessary.
The US President's tough statement was made in the context of US-Iran relations continuing to escalate after a series of tense developments related to the nuclear program, military attacks and retaliatory statements from both sides.
In recent weeks, Mr. Trump has repeatedly accused Iran of violating ceasefire agreements and declared that negotiations between the two countries have ended.
Meanwhile, Iran has repeatedly rejected US accusations, and condemned military actions and pressure from Washington.
Observers believe that Mr. Trump's latest statement continues to show the US's tough stance on Iran, while increasing concerns about the risk of escalating tensions between the two sides in the near future.
Currently, the Iranian side has not made official comments on the new statement of the US President.
