Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a video on the X platform to express his gratitude for the US's support in the conflict with Russia, according to NDTV World.
In the video, Mr. Zelensky emphasized: We understand the importance of the United States and are grateful for all the support we have received. There has never been a day that we have not felt that gratitude. That is a gratitude for protecting our independence - because Ukraine's strength is based on what our partners are doing for us and for their own security."
The speech came after Zelensky attended a summit of European leaders in London on the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Here, leaders from the UK, the European Union, Türkiye and many other countries affirmed that to achieve true peace, there must be strong security guarantees.
Tensions between Zelensky and Donald Trump began on February 28, when the two leaders met for the first time since Trump returned to the presidency in January 2025.
Initially, the dialogue took place with social terms, but quickly escalated into a fierce debate right in front of the international media. US Vice President J.D. Vance stressed the need for a diplomatic solution to end the conflict and criticized Mr. Zelensky for not being grateful for the support Ukraine has received.
President Trump also criticized, emphasizing that without US help, Ukraine would not have had today. Mr Zelensky then left immediately without holding a joint press conference as planned. The two sides also did not sign a mineral agreement, a document expected to play a key role in efforts to end the conflict.
Despite the tensions, Zelensky's message shows that Ukraine continues to view US support as an important factor for the country's independence and security.
