In a report to the National People's Committee of China this week, Mr. Zheng Shanjie - Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC) - emphasized the need to implement key infrastructure projects such as the new transportation canal at the Three Gorges Dam, Tan Hoa commune reported.
According to NDRC and the bidding documents, the project will help reduce the load on the Tam Hiep - Cat Chau Ba cluster, a strategic link in the "Truong Giang Economic Ring Road", by building a new 5-storey double-track harbor system and increasing the transport capacity of Cat Chau Ba dam.
The NDRC's May report described this as "the largest integrated project on the Truong Giang River since the Three Gorges Dam, combining the functions of water resource management, waterway traffic and ecology".
The bidding notice announced in June this year estimated the total investment capital at about 76.6 billion yuan (10.7 billion USD), the construction period is more than 8 years and 12 months of preparation. The project's progress will last throughout the next 5 years.
The idea of this super project was once mentioned in China's 13th 5-year Plan and 14th 5-year plan, also emphasizing the need to "reduc bottlenecks in the Three Gorges Cluster".
In a report published this week, Chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission Zheng Shanjie also mentioned other major infrastructure projects, including a super dam in Tibet that started construction in July.
He called for comprehensive implementation of consumer promotion initiatives, including easing limitations, expanding spending on services, implementing subsidies for children and emphasizing investment in people.
