RT reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted that Kiev would find it difficult to hold firm against Russian troops if the US stops providing aid. The comment comes after US President Donald Trump suspended most of Washington's foreign financing programs.
In an interview, Mr. Zelensky said that aids from the US have never been reduced or suspended until now. "When we talk about what we can do without this support, I don't even want to imagine what will happen," Ukrainian President admitted.
Mr Zelensky concluded that Kiev's defense could be “hid by a powerful blow” if the US stops providing aid. “I am not sure we can hold on,” said the Ukrainian leader.
Since the conflict with Russia broke out in February 2022, the US has been believed to be the main supporter of Ukraine. According to Mr. Trump, during nearly 3 years of conflict, the US spent 200 billion USD to support Ukraine. President Trump said this was a waste and criticized his predecessor.
Meanwhile, on February 2, Mr. Zelensky spoke up to refute the above information, and corrected the actual amount of money Kiev received of about 76 billion USD, most of which were weapons.
Immediately after taking office last month, Mr. Trump signed an executive decree to suspend all US foreign development aid programs in 90 days, except for some special cases, to consider whether they would serve Washington's interests.
These restrictions have caused the US International Development Agency USAID to almost suspend operations. Last weekend, the official website of USAID stopped operating and its X account disappeared amid information that the White House was considering merging USAID into the US Foreign Ministry.
Also last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine could not survive without support from the West. “They will not last for more than a month if they run out of money and ammunition,” Putin said.
The Kremlin has repeatedly affirmed that Western support for Kiev has “made them one of the conflict”. However, both Washington and Brussels denied this.
