In a television interview on January 30, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said that the process of resolving the Ukraine conflict is very close to ending.
According to Mr. Whitaker, the parties involved have made significant progress as most of the technical and complex issues have been resolved.
Mr. Matthew Whitaker said that there is currently only one major content to be completed, which is the territorial issue. This is considered the most difficult aspect in the entire negotiation process. He quoted the opinion of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff that current discussions only revolve around this issue, showing a significant narrowing of disagreements.
Mr. Whitaker also added that the security assurances as well as the economic benefits that a peace agreement brings to Ukraine have basically been agreed upon. He emphasized that these factors, in fact, have been completed and are no longer an obstacle in the negotiation process.
The US Ambassador to NATO said that the remaining task is to build a prudent and feasible solution to the territorial issue. He said that if this bottleneck is overcome, a comprehensive solution to the conflict will become very close. According to his assessment, the parties are currently closest to reaching an agreement since the negotiation process was initiated.
The above statements were made in the context of continued diplomatic efforts to find a way out of the prolonged conflict, with a focus on balancing territorial claims and future security commitments to Ukraine.
