A representative of the Ukrainian Human Rights Commission, Mr. Oleksandr Horodetskyi, met with a suspect in the Nord Stream case, Serhii Kuznetsov. During the meeting, Serhii Kuznetsov completed the questionnaire of the Ukrainian Human Rights Inspectorate.
Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets said that the Nord Stream suspect was transferred to a private cell after being held with terrorists from the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group, who smoke continuously, while the suspect could not stand the smoke.
The Nord Stream suspect's diet has also been improved to suit a vegan and gluten-free diet. Previously, the Ukrainian suspect went hungry from October 31 to November 11, losing 9kg during the fast.
Currently, suspect Kuznetsov is allowed to access the gym and has 2 hours a day to meet his wife. The suspect has also requested an update on news from Ukraine.
Last week, Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets confirmed that the suspect Kuznetsov had served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has not yet sent the military records of the Nord Stream suspect to the Italian side.
Ukrainian media said that as a military officer, Nord Stream suspect Kuznetsov must be protected under international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War.
An Italian court has stopped calling Ukrainian suspect Kuznetsov a terrorist. According to the schedule, the hearing on the extradition of the Nord Stream suspect from Italy to Germany will take place on November 19.
The Nord Stream explosion occurred in September 2022 in the international waters of the Baltic Sea. At the time, the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines were not operating but still contained technical gas.
In February 2024, Danish authorities concluded the Nord Stream investigation on grounds of insufficient grounds to continue criminal proceedings, after which Sweden also reached a similar conclusion.
On August 27, 2025, Die Zeit, ARD and Suddeutsche Zeitung reported that German investigators had identified all the suspects in the Nord Stream sabotage and issued arrest warrants for 6 Ukrainian citizens, including four divers, an explosives expert, a captain and the leader of the sabotage group.
On September 30, Polish authorities reported that they had arrested Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Zhuravlyov, a wanted German national for his involvement in the Nord Stream sabotage. The head of the Polish National Security Service Sławomir Cenckiewicz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk publicly opposed the extradition of suspect Volodymyr Zhuravlyov, saying it was not in the interests of the nation.
Serhii Kuznetsov, also a suspect in the Nord Stream sabotage, was arrested in Italy while on a vacation with his family under a European wanted notice. The suspect is currently being held in a high-security prison in northern Italy.
