Vietnam and the Vatican acknowledge the positive contributions of the Church to the common development of Vietnam.

On September 14, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on September 12, 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Head of the Vietnamese delegation, and German Minister Mirosław Wachowski, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Holy See, Head of the Holy See delegation co-chaired the 12th Meeting of the Vietnam - Holy See Joint Working Group in the Vatican.

The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the Vietnam - the Holy See relationship and the current situation of the Catholic Church in Vietnam.

The two sides acknowledged the positive contributions of the Church to the common development of Vietnam, in the spirit of living Phuc Am in the hearts of the nation, good Catholics are also good citizens.

The two sides expressed their satisfaction with the progress in bilateral relations since the 11th meeting of the Vietnam - Lebanon Joint Working Group, held in Hanoi in May 2024, including regular meetings and consultations, exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially at high levels, as well as activities of the Permanent Representative of the Lebanon, German Director General Marek Zalewski.

The two sides emphasized the importance of continuing to promote bilateral relations through high-level delegation exchanges, and agreed to continue to organize regular meetings of the Joint Working Group.

The meeting took place in a friendly, trusting and mutually respectful atmosphere.

On the occasion of the Vatican visit, the Vietnamese delegation met with Cardinal Leo XIV and paid a courtesy visit to the Prime Minister, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, cardinal general Paul Gallagher.
