On February 10 (US time) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, attended the annual meeting of the Executive Council of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) as a member of the Executive Council for the 2025-2027 term.

This is the first session of the UN Women Executive Board in 2025, taking place in the context of the United Nations preparing to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Platform and Programme of Action (1995), the 20th anniversary of the adoption of Resolution 1325 of the UN Security Council on Women, Peace and Security and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of UN Women. At the meeting, countries shared the view that despite much progress, the protection of women's rights and gender equality faces many challenges. Women in many parts of the world are facing conflicts, humanitarian crises, are victims of violence, discrimination and are greatly affected by climate change and social injustice, while resources for this field are increasingly difficult, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda has not met the set schedule.

Speaking at the discussion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that this is an important occasion for member countries and the United Nations to assess the progress achieved, draw important lessons, thereby proposing effective and timely solutions to challenges, and share some priorities to promote global gender equality. The Ambassador said that in the context of the rapid scientific, technological and innovation revolution, which is of key significance to the development of humanity today, it is necessary to promote the participation and contribution of women in the fields of science, technology and innovation through integrated STEM education programs for girls, and build a global framework to connect women participating in STEM in different regions. It is necessary to allocate resources more effectively to essential areas such as health and education, conduct gender impact assessments, set specific and clear goals, and promote transparency in budget spending to contribute to improving practical effectiveness.

In addition, the Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations emphasized that implementing targeted measures such as regulations on the rate of women's participation, leadership training programs and support policies to ensure work-life balance are essential to create conditions for women to promote their roles and contribute more in policy making and decision making.

On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang shared and highlighted the efforts and positive results that Vietnam has achieved in ensuring gender equality, especially the high proportion of female National Assembly deputies and female scientists, and the early adoption of the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2020-2031 period.Vietnam affirmed its readiness to cooperate with UN Women and members of the Executive Council to contribute to the common efforts of the international community to promote gender equality, accelerate the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, so that no one is left behind.
