Sputnik reported that on October 9, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian Northern Army cluster had liberated the Novaya Sorochina and Pokrovsk settlements in Kursk province.
In addition, the Northern Group defeated a formation of 10 Ukrainian brigades in the areas of Daryino, Lyubimovka, Novy Put and Plekhovo.
They also repelled two enemy attacks in the direction of the Lyubimovka and Plekhovo settlements, causing up to 20 Ukrainian armed forces to be killed and wounded.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that in the past day, the losses of the Ukrainian armed forces in Kursk province amounted to about 100 soldiers.
In total, since the beginning of the fighting in Kursk (August 6, 2024), Ukraine has lost more than 21,350 soldiers, 136 tanks, 66 infantry fighting vehicles, 98 armored personnel carriers, 891 armored fighting vehicles, 589 cars, 177 artillery pieces, 33 multiple launchers of direct- fired missile systems, including 8 HIMARS and 6 MLRS manufactured by the US, 9 launchers of air defense missile systems, 5 transport vehicles, 45 electronic warfare stations, 9 anti-personnating radars, 3 air defense radars, 22 technical units and other equipment, including 13 technical clearance vehicles, one missile clearance equipment, as well as three repair and recovery vehicles for artillery.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the operation to destroy units of the Ukrainian armed forces continues.
Kiev launched an offensive into Russia's Kursk region in early August, seizing the town of Sudzha and several nearby villages.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the operation was part of a "victory plan" to increase Kiev's strength in potential negotiations with Moscow.
Ukraine's attack on Kursk has lost momentum in just a few days and the situation has been at a standstill for weeks. Since mid-September, the Russian military has been conducting counter-offensive operations and regaining control of many towns and villages.
On October 9, the Russian Defense Ministry released a video of the combat team of the Pantsir-S1 SAM anti-aircraft missile and artillery complex controlling airspace over Russian military positions in Kursk.
Pantsir S-1 SAM is a missile - artillery defense complex capable of destroying most air targets in the short and medium range. This is considered a powerful weapon and one of Russia's most advanced close-range air defense systems.
This air defense complex includes automatic anti-aircraft artillery and surface-to-air missiles, along with radar or optical equipment to track targets and radio command post.
The Pantsir S-1 SAM missile and artillery defense complex is used to protect key target areas, residential and military sites, mobile combat units up to the size of regroupes or other air defense complexes such as the S-300 or S-400.
The air targets that the complex can destroy are aircraft, helicopters, drones, cruise missiles and ground-precision guided weapons.
