US police are responding to information about the shooting that led to many casualties in Monterey Park on the evening of January 21, according to a law enforcement source revealed to Los Angeles Times.
The Los Angeles Times notes that there are few details, including the number of people shot. Internal contact information of the police determined that there were some deaths.
Meanwhile, according to Alarabiya, at least 10 people were killed and 16 injured in the latest shooting in the US.
Seung Won Choi, the owner of a restaurant opposite the shooting site on Garvey Boulevard, said three people rushed into the restaurant and asked him to lock the door.
They said that there was a man carrying a machine gun in the area. The gunman carried many bullets on his person, so when the bullets ran out, the shooter reloaded the bullets, Mr. Choi said.
According to Mr. Choi, the shooting is likely to have occurred at a dance club in the area.
The shooting took place at around 10:00 p.m. on January 21, near the location of the Lunar New Year celebration.
Tens of thousands of people gathered on January 21 to start the 2-day festival, one of the biggest Lunar New Year events in the region.
John, 27, who lives near the shooting site, said he went home around 10pm and heard four or five gunshots. After that, John heard the sound of a police patrol car on the road.
Video on social media shows police and firefighters surrounding an area on Garvey Avenue and treating the victims. The injured have been taken to many hospitals in the area. It is unclear whether the suspect was detained or not.
