On September 23, Mr. Vo Tan Nhan - Director of Tri An Hydropower Company signed a document announcing the increase in spillway discharge to regulate the Tri An Hydropower reservoir.
Speaking to Lao Dong newspaper reporter, Mr. Vo Tan Nhan - Director of Tri An Hydropower Company said that to ensure flood prevention capacity, combined with the water level downstream of the river at Bien Hoa hydrological station having passed the peak of high tide and is falling, and at the same time not releasing quickly and suddenly to avoid possible impacts on the downstream, Tri An Hydropower Company increased the amount of water released to regulate the reservoir.
According to the notice, at 12 noon on September 23, after 2 hours of spillway discharge, the upstream water level of the lake was 60.78m, the downstream water level at the factory was 4.7m, the water flow to the lake was 1,700m3/second.
It is expected that in the next 1-2 days, the water flow into the lake will be more than 1,400m3/second, the water flow discharged through the spillway will be 150m3/second, and the water flow through the power turbine will be 815m3/second.
At 9:00 a.m. on September 24, the spillway will be discharged with a water flow through the spillway of 320m3/second, water flow through the turbine generating electricity from 800 - 850m3/second, total water flow discharged downstream is from 1,120 - 1,170m3/second.
At 11:00 a.m. on September 24, the spillway will be discharged with the water flow through the spillway increasing to 480 m3/s, the water flow through the turbine generating electricity from 800 - 850 m3/s, the total water flow discharged downstream is from 1,280 - 1,330 m3/s.
Then, depending on the weather and the water level downstream of the Bien Hoa hydrological station, the company can change the water flow through the spillway. The company informs relevant local authorities and agencies to direct, coordinate and notify people downstream of the reservoir to proactively take preventive measures to avoid possible damage.
Previously, at 10:00 a.m. on September 23, Tri An Hydropower Plant discharged water from one gate with a flow rate of about 150m3/second.
Mr. Nhan added that tomorrow (September 24) at 9:00 a.m., another spillway gate will be opened and at 11:00 a.m., another spillway gate will be opened.
Tri An Hydropower Plant was inaugurated and put into operation in 1991. Currently, the plant has 4 units, with a total designed capacity of 400MW. This is the largest hydropower project in the Southern region, contributing greatly to the national grid, helping to regulate water sources for daily life, production, repelling salinity and regulating floods for downstream areas.
