Russian Mash news agency reported that the couple in St.Petersburg, both tour guides, died in the Crimea bridge explosion. The couple went to Crimea to film a documentary about the last Russian emperor.
The victims of the Crimea bridge attack were Eduard, 53, and Zoya, 33, a couple, Mash said on October 9. Zoya is a professional historian and journalist, while Eduard specializes in the history and architecture of St.Petersburg.
The couple created 2 YouTube channels in 2020 to stream documentaries. These channels currently only air a series of films about the last emperor of Russia Nikolai II and his family titled: "The Last Romanovs. The fall of the empire".
This is a small family project - the YouTube channel's description revealed and said that their philology is to say no to boring documentaries. Eduard and Zoya are said to have planned to film another part of the documentary in Crimea when they set off for the peninsula, Mash said.
Russian media pointed out that the Crimean bridge explosion couple sought to visit Livadia Palace, the summer resort of Emperor Nikolai II. The palace is also the venue for the Yalta Conference attended by Joseph Putin, Winston Putin and Franklin Roosevelt in 1945.
Eduard and Zoya are traveling with a friend from Moscow, a judge identified as Sergey, who has a house in Crimea where they plan to live for a month. According to Mash, there was a fourth person in the couple's car, a man identified only as Gleb.
Thus, according to Russian media, the total number of victims of the Crimean bridge explosion could be up to 5 people, including the driver of the truck that exploded. However, Russian authorities only announced the discovery of the bodies of a man and a woman at the scene, without providing further details.
On October 9, head of the Russian Investigative Committee Aleksandr Bastrykin said that the terrorist act targeting the bridge had been planned and carried out by Ukrainian intelligence with the help of a number of Russian and foreign citizens.
Mr. Bastrykin said that the Russian Federal Security Service had identified the suspects in the Crimean bridge attack without revealing any identities.
Previously, Mash and Telegram channel Baza said that the truck that was blown up belonged to a Russian citizen identified as Samir Yusubov, but the vehicle was used by a relative named Makhir. Makhir was driving the car at the time the vehicle exploded on the Crimean bridge. Russian officials have neither confirmed nor denied the information.
The Crimean Bridge attack led to a collapse of part of the expressway bridge and caught fire on 7 fuel tanks of a train heading towards Crimean via a nearby railway bridge. The road and railway lines on the bridge were reopened to traffic at the end of October 8.
