According to Euronews, the trend of investing in disaster and war shelters is spreading in Europe. Spain is not left out either. The number of tunnels built in the country has increased by 200% since the conflict in Ukraine broke out in February 2022.
In Spain, people are increasingly interested in high-security shelters. These works are often nuclear-resistant, equipped with disinfected lotus hoses, solid concrete walls and steel doors.
A company specializing in building high-end shelters, VIP Bunker, said that their products are designed as a "safe home", where users can live for many months, thanks to the ability to hold up to 1,000 liters of drinking water and a diverse backup power system.
However, this type of tunnel is not for the majority due to the average cost of up to 150,000 euros, while high-end models can exceed 350,000 euros.
Therefore, a part of the people have chosen to create a safe space in their home and store food that is not easily damaged. Previously, the European Union (EU) had recommended that people prepare survival kit for 72 hours and called on governments to strengthen cooperation between civilians and the military.

At the same time, the demand for life skills is also increasing. Lieutenant Colonel Manolo Camara said that public awareness has changed significantly recently when he has continuously implemented many survival skills training programs for the public.
Ignacio Ortega, head of the coaching department at the Spanish Conservation Institute, also noted the level of interest that is spreading to many social classes.
According to Mr. Ortega, not only those working in the security field but also families and independent professionals come to the courses. With about 2,000 students a year, Mr. Ortega believes that prevention is the most important factor.
Mr. Ortega argues that the best way to survive is not to fall into a situation that requires survival and any activity should be assessed for risks in advance, while preparing both knowledge and equipment.
Lieutenant Colonel Camara also acknowledged that building a shelter tunnel is not easy, because the cost is very high, and if done by himself, it will be difficult to meet safety standards.
