Axios news site quoted 4 sources from the US, Israel and the region who understand the negotiation process as saying that the negotiations "are being conducted through intermediaries from Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey, and also through messages between Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi".
Sources said that the possibility of reaching a partial agreement in the next 48 hours is "very fragile".
Also according to Axios, Iranian officials have made it clear to intermediaries that the country does not want to fall into a situation similar to Gaza or Lebanon - where a ceasefire exists nominally, but the US and Israel can still attack at any time.
In developments related to the Iranian conflict, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a phone conversation to discuss the "current situation in the Middle East", according to Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations Fu Cong.
Mr. Wang Yi emphasized that, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and Russia need to maintain fairness in distinguishing right from wrong, maintain an objective and balanced approach, and strive to promote broad understanding and support from the international community" - Mr. Fu Cong informed on social network X.
The Chinese diplomat also warned that currently, the situation in the Middle East continues to worsen and fighting is still escalating.

In the phone call, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also expressed concern about the current escalation, and affirmed that "military activities must cease immediately".
