Up to now, FAM has not made any move to invite coach Park Hang-seo to work, except for the statement of chairman Hamidin.
However, the Malaysian media is very interested in the former strategist of the Vietnamese national team, especially his salary. During the final period of leading the Vietnamese national team, Mr. Park was said to receive a salary of up to 50,000 USD/month.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kim Pan-gon (South Korea), who previously led the Malaysian team, only received more than 20,000 USD/month. If FAM wants to invite Mr. Park to work, it is likely that they will have to pay him a salary equivalent to when he was leading the Vietnamese team.
According to agent Effendi Jagan Abdullah, this amount is too large, especially considering that Mr. Park Hang-seo works in Southeast Asia and is currently not leading any team.
According to Effendi, a more reasonable salary for a coach of Park Hang-seo's caliber would be around $30,000 (RM130,000).
"If he receives a salary of up to 218,000 ringgit, it is really too high. Vietnam can afford it because they have the support of private companies. If FAM offers Mr. Park Hang-seo a two-year contract, they will have to pay more than 5 million ringgit just for his salary.
It’s really not worth it. With that amount of money, FAM could hire a better coach from Europe. I don’t doubt Mr. Park’s ability, I just wonder about his salary. He’s not working for any team yet, so he might be waiting to negotiate a higher salary.
People also need to remember that each coach has his own playing style. Park Hang-seo has been successful in Vietnam, but he may have difficulty here due to the different football environment," Effendi shared on The Star (Malaysia).
Currently, the Malaysian team is led by interim coach Paul Marti Vicente. According to The Star, if FAM wants to bring Mr. Park to replace Kim Pan-gon, they will have to pay more than double the salary. This is something FAM will have to consider carefully.
Also recently, Park Hang-seo’s representative, Lee Dong-jun, denied contacting FAM to lead the Malaysian team. Previously, the Indian team also expressed interest in Park but later chose another coach.
