Today (August 20), the Vietnamese men's volleyball team moves from the Philippines to Indonesia to participate in stage 2 of SEA V.League 2024 . To save time and ensure expertise, coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team were given favorable conditions by the Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Volleyball Federation to go straight to Indonesia instead of having to return to Vietnam.
Stage 2 is a very important stage, an opportunity for Pham Van Hiep and his teammates to get better results. Because, in stage 1, the Vietnamese boys caused a big disappointment.
Before SEA V.League 2024, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team participated in the AVC Challenge Cup 2024 in June. Although it was the first time competing in this tournament, coach Tran Dinh Tien's team ranked 6th overall. In the context of that continental-level tournament, there are many teams in the top 20 and 30 in the world.
This opens up many expectations when the Vietnamese men's volleyball team participates in stage 1 of SEA V.League 2024. However, the "Golden Star Warriors" immediately had to return to the ground due to disappointing results.
In the opening match, Vietnam lost 1-3 to host Philippines. Worth mentioning, this is an opponent that Vietnam has rarely lost to in the past. In the second match, Pham Van Hiep and his teammates could not create a surprise when they lost 0-3 to the Thai men's volleyball team.
In the final match, Vietnam continued to lose 2-3 to Indonesia. Despite making a mark by winning 2 games for the first time against the team from ten thousand islands in the past 17 years, losing back after 5 games is definitely a "hard to swallow" defeat for Vietnamese volleyball fans.
Losing all 3 matches and finishing last in stage 1 of SEA V.League 2024 is a bad result for the Vietnamese men's volleyball team. In most of the previous 3 matches, Vietnam's representatives often revealed their weak point which was their poor playing mentality. At important moments, coach Tran Dinh Tien's players played poorly, revealing many gaps in the middle of the field.
The lack of depth in the squad, especially the lack of service from second passer Dinh Van Duy because the player born in 2000 is in the stage of physical therapy to recover from a knee injury is also a big reason leading to poor performance of the Vietnamese men's volleyball team.
Normally, Dinh Van Duy always has many smart passes and blocks, plays well with players on the attack like Ngoc Thuan, Van Hiep, The Khai,... helping the team have sharp attack lines. . Without the 24-year-old second passer, Vietnam's passes did not have much speed or the necessary sharpness.
Besides, some expected faces such as Tu Thanh Thuan, Ngoc Thuan, Quan Trong Nghia, Tran Minh Duc or Truong The Khai also played below their strength. At the same time, there is a large gap in level between the main players and the reserves, leaving coach Tran Dinh Tien unable to have many options for the squad.
The SEA V.League tournament is the last international mission in 2024 of the Vietnamese men's volleyball team. The players need to work hard to improve their performance in the upcoming phase 2.
After finishing the international tournaments, the men's volleyball team will certainly have a report for the professional committee and coaching staff to evaluate in order to learn from experience and make adjustments in the future.
