On the afternoon of September 12, the leader of the People's Committee of Van Yen district (Yen Bai) said that at around 9:30 a.m. the same day, a landslide occurred in Chau Que Ha commune, killing 3 people.
At that time, 3 people in Chau Que Ha commune went to peel cinnamon on the hill, then unfortunately were buried by a landslide.
Upon receiving the news, the local authorities assigned and mobilized police, military, civil servants and Khe Phao village to organize the search. By 11am, the rescue work was completed and 3 victims were found dead.
The deceased victims include: Ms. Dang Thi T, born in 1988, residing in Khe Phao village, Chau Que Ha commune; Ms. Hoang Thi D, born in 1973 and Ms. Trieu Thi K, born in 1966, both residing in Tra village, Dong An commune, Van Yen district.
That same afternoon, all three victims' bodies were handed over to their families for funeral arrangements.
Also this morning (September 12), at 4:30 a.m. at Km305, National Highway 37, Yen Phu village, Hung Thinh commune (Tran Yen, Yen Bai province), a landslide occurred, collapsing 1 house, damaging 2 houses, killing 2 couples and injuring 4 people in the same family.
Up to now, the circulation of storm No. 3 in Yen Bai has killed 40 people, left 4 missing, and injured 24. The whole province has 22,886 houses damaged. The total area of damaged and affected crops is 4,828 hectares.
Regarding traffic and irrigation infrastructure, the whole province has 4 national highways with 180 landslide points; 14 provincial roads with 200 landslide points causing traffic jams; many rural roads were eroded, collapsed and washed away. Damage to 25 irrigation works, embankments; 8 dikes in Tran Yen district overflowed and broke. Infrastructure for health, education, electricity, water, and communication were eroded, flooded, and communication was interrupted. Many high-voltage and medium-voltage electric poles were broken; many flooded areas had prolonged power and water outages.
