Reuters reported that 24-year-old Mohamed Nufal began his journey from his hometown of Cairo, Egypt in April. After saying goodbye to his hometown, Mohamed will have to travel 3,000 miles (nearly 5,000km) to reach the Russian capital.
Mohamed said he hopes to go to Moscow before June 15 to watch the match between Egypt and Uruguay. This is the first time in nearly 3 decades that Egypt has had the opportunity to appear in the world's top tournament.
His journey will be cycling through Jordan, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. However, he will fly through Syria and not Iraq for security reasons.
"It was because of the route I took, not the destination," Mohamed explained why he rode a bicycle instead of taking a plane straight to Moscow. "If it was just for the World Cup, I would have flown. That ( cycling) is a great opportunity for me to experience new things".
The young Egyptian also said that he was escorted a long distance in his hometown by friends. He said he wanted to receive help from kind-hearted people on a special trip.
