Huge list of achievements
Bui Thi Nga was born in 1994 in Ninh Binh. She, along with Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, is one of the three outstanding "dinosaurs" of Vietnamese women's volleyball from 2018 to 2023 in terms of physique, professional index and competition experience.
With a height of 1m86, possessing a high-level playing style and good blocking, Bui Thi Nga has always been a prominent name of the national women's volleyball team when she was still playing at her peak. The former hitter from Ninh Binh was also an excellent middle blocker for many years of Vietnamese women's volleyball.
She and the national team won 6th place at ASIAD in 2018; 3 silver medals at SEA Games in 2013, 2015, 2019 and bronze medal in 2017...
At the club level, Bui Thi Nga also held an irreplaceable position in the first team of the Information Corps club when she was still playing. During 11 seasons with the army team in the national championship, the 1994-born middle blocker contributed to 7 championships and 3 runner-up positions. She also played a very important role in many of the club's achievements in other tournaments.
In 2022, Bui Thi Nga got married to her husband Xuan Hoang. In early 2023, the female player from Ninh Binh announced her retirement at the age of 29 and moved to coaching at the Information Corps team.
Emotional journey of motherhood
After retiring, Bui Thi Nga had more time to take care of herself and her small family. In June 2024, she and her husband received more good news when the couple welcomed their first daughter, nicknamed "May".
Talking to Lao Dong, Bui Thi Nga expressed: "Since knowing about May's presence, my family has been very happy. At first, I was afraid that when my child was born, I wouldn't know how to take good care of her.
Like many other mothers, I looked forward to May growing up every day, worried about whether I was eating enough nutrients for her, and then learned everything to prepare for her. Excitement, happiness, and anxiety were the emotions I experienced when I first started to fulfill my role as a mother."
The former assistant of the Information Corps said that she was a bit clumsy and afraid of many things after giving birth and taking care of her child in the beginning. Luckily, Bui Thi Nga received a lot of companionship, encouragement and support from her husband as well as both families to overcome that period.
"The first time I held May, it felt really strange, awkward and scared. But luckily, I always had my two mothers by my side. Because of the cesarean section, I lost a lot of blood. After that, I stayed up all night to give birth, which changed my daily routine, leading to lack of sleep and nutrition. At that time, my two mothers always took turns looking after May so I could catch up on sleep, and encouraged me to eat and drink to get well soon.
As for my husband, he is my strongest support. To me, he is a wonderful husband, always loving, taking care of his wife and children and teaching me many things in life," Bui Thi Nga shared.
As the Lunar New Year 2025 approaches, Bui Thi Nga said that because this year the family has a new member, May, they might celebrate Tet bigger than usual. Currently, she and her family have returned to their hometown to prepare for Tet, ready to welcome a new year full of joy and success.
