Focus on key content groups
Athletics is one of the few national sports teams that started professional training the earliest at this time. In 2025, the Vietnam Athletics Team's coaching board will gather 70 athletes and practice at 5 locations including the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho and Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports.
“We are still building a professional program aimed at thorough preparation for key content groups. In particular, Vietnam Athletics continues to look for new young and promising people to invest in the next generation,” said Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, General Secretary of the Vietnam Athletics Federation.
Looking at the force, currently athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh is still the face that the Vietnamese athletics team focuses on for professional preparation. At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Nguyen Thi Oanh participated and won 4 Gold Medals (1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, 3,000m obstacle).
Currently, coach Tran Van Sy is actively training Nguyen Thi Oanh to achieve the best physical condition before going to Thailand to compete. Meanwhile, the 400m and 400m hurdles for men and women in Vietnamese athletics are the next groups of events to pay attention to.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung added that the group of athletes Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Hang, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh are the key players of the women's 4x400m relay team and each of them is arranged to prepare professionally for the individual 400m and 400m hurdles events.
The four girls above won 1 Gold Medal in the Women's 4x400m event at the 2024 Asian Relay Championship and are holding the national record (time 3 minutes 30 seconds 82). Their goal at the 33rd SEA Games-2025 is to strive to win the Gold Medal in the Women's 4x400m Relay event.
Looking for promising people
According to the coaching staff of the professional content groups, we currently have no cases of athletes being injured. The athletes are maintaining a stable training. At the 32nd SEA Games, Vietnamese athletics won 12 Gold Medals in the events they participated in. When reporting the professional plan to the leaders of the sports industry, the athletics department set a goal of protecting the above results in the 33rd SEA Games-2025.
However, according to experts, Vietnamese athletics must start to have new faces to replace athletes who are no longer at their peak, otherwise we will fall behind in terms of performance in the next stages. In the women's 4x400m relay team, Quach Thi Lan, Nguyen Thi Hang, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh competed well.
However, we have not found a suitable reserve athlete for each runner. The young face Le Thi Tuyet Mai was once considered promising. However, this female athlete has not really had a breakthrough due to her small body. This year, Vietnamese athletics welcomes the return of former athlete Vu Thi Ngoc Ha. She was banned from competing due to a doping incident at the 31st SEA Games. Ngoc Ha has finished her ban and returned to compete, winning 1 Gold Medal in the women's long jump event and 1 Silver Medal in the women's triple jump at the 2024 National Athletics Championship.
Therefore, the coaching board gave her a place back on the Vietnam Athletics Team. The famous former female long jumper Bui Thi Thu Thao has retired, so Vu Thi Ngoc Ha is expected to achieve high results at the 33rd SEA Games. In other preparations, young talent Tran Thi Nhi Yen was given a target of achievement at the 33rd SEA Games. Nhi Yen was absent from the 2024 National Athletics Championship due to injury.
