Donald Trump takes office for the second time
At 12 noon on January 20, 2025, US time (0:00 on January 21, 2025, Vietnam time), at the US Capitol, Mr. Donald Trump was officially sworn in as President of the United States for the second time after a resounding victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
On the eve of his inauguration, before thousands of supporters at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., an enthusiastic Donald Trump declared: "We are putting America first, and it all starts tomorrow. This is a new chapter of American strength, prosperity, dignity, and pride."
Outgoing President Joe Biden, outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, Republican and Democratic members of Congress, foreign dignitaries, billionaires Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos — three of the world’s richest people — gathered in the Capitol Rotunda for Trump’s inauguration, the first indoor inauguration in four decades due to the extreme cold that has gripped much of the United States.
Following Donald Trump's inaugural address is the official farewell ceremony for Biden and Harris.
President-elect Donald Trump then headed to the White House for a ceremony in the Oval Office before heading to the traditional inaugural balls in the evening.
Mr. Trump pledged to take immediate action with more than 200 executive actions to address urgent issues such as immigration, energy, border security, reducing the cost of living...
"I will act with historic speed and power and solve every crisis facing our country. You will see executive orders that will make you very happy. We have to get our country back on track," Trump said on the eve of his inauguration.
The spectacular comeback
Donald Trump's inauguration this year was marked by a stark contrast to President Joe Biden's inauguration four years ago, which took place amid chaos and division just two weeks after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in a failed attempt to prevent Congress from certifying Biden's victory.
Four years later, after a two-year presidential campaign and a convincing popular vote victory and landslide victories in all the key battleground states, Mr. Trump is back.
"On this day, America witnessed the return of President Donald Trump to the pinnacle of political power," Fox News quoted veteran political scientist Wayne Lesperance.
The latest Fox News national poll shows Mr Trump enjoying a 50% approval rating compared to 42% when he first entered the White House in 2017 - with half of registered voters backing his handling of the presidential transition.
"Mr. Trump's journey since his defeat in the 2020 election has been remarkable. His refusal to accept the election results, his support for the January 6, 2021 insurrection, and the subsequent legal challenges, including indictments and convictions, seemed to have ended any future political ambitions. But now Mr. Trump is back as a 'conquering hero' thanks to strong support from voters," said Mr. Lesperance.
For his part, Mr. Trump declared: "We not only won, but we built a new majority, laying the foundation for extraordinary success for generations."
With Republicans controlling both the Senate and the House of Representatives, President Donald Trump is expected to usher in a new chapter of prosperity and stability for America.
