On the afternoon of September 22, karate brought home the first gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation at ASIAD 20. Three athletes Ngoc Tram, Ngoc Nhi and Thu Uyen won 5-0 against the Iranian team in the women's team kata final.
In the decisive round, the Vietnamese trio performed Tomari Bassai. The referees respectively scored the Vietnamese team 8.8; 8.2; 8.8; 8.3 and 8.6 points.
Meanwhile, the Iranian team performed the song Papuren and received scores of 8.4; 7.9; 8.4; 7.6 and 8.3.
With a score of 5-0, Ngoc Tram, Ngoc Nhi and Thu Uyen won gold medals, while Iran received silver medals.
This is the first gold medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at ASIAD 20. This achievement also continues the mark of Vietnamese karate in the women's team kata event after winning a gold medal at ASIAD 19.
Before entering the final match, the trio Ngoc Tram, Ngoc Nhi and Thu Uyen showed impressive form. In the quarterfinals, the Vietnamese martial artists won 5-0 to take the lead in the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Vietnam continued to overcome Taiwan (China) with a score of 5-0. The performances of Ngoc Tram, Ngoc Nhi and Thu Uyen were scored 8.0; 8.1; 8.1; 8.5 and 8.5 points respectively by 5 referees.
The gold medal of the karate trio helps the Vietnamese sports delegation have more motivation in the competition day of September 22, and also marks an important milestone at ASIAD 20.
