Waiting for the mark of Vietnamese shooting at ASIAD 20

Careful preparation

The Vietnamese shooting team participated in ASIAD 20 with 15 shooters, competing in rifle and pistol events. This is one of the teams assigned to compete for medals for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at ASIAD 20.

In the process of preparation, Vietnamese shooting maintains the plan to compete and train abroad to help shooters accumulate experience, get acquainted with international competition conditions and improve their expertise. Some key players are given conditions to participate in training sessions in Korea and France before entering the congress.

Trinh Thu Vinh is one of the notable faces after her performance at ASIAD 19. In Hangzhou, this shooter finished 6th in the women's 10m air pistol final but has not won a medal. After that, Thu Vinh continued to maintain her form in international tournaments and became one of the main female shooters of the team, typically at the 2024 Olympics with impressive achievements.

Before the ASIAD 20, Thu Vinh had about 3 weeks of training in Korea. The preparation process focused on improving stability in competition, especially in pistol events. Thu Vinh's goal in Japan is to compete for the first ASIAD medal in her career.

In the men's 10m air pistol event, Pham Quang Huy continues to be a promising face. At ASIAD 19, Quang Huy won a Gold Medal and became the first Vietnamese shooter to win an individual event at the Asian Games. After this achievement, he continued to be selected for his forte event at ASIAD 20.

The shooter born in 1996 has a preparation process with the national team in Korea and maintains training with equipment and combat ammunition specifically prepared for the Games. Quang Huy is also in the group of players expected to continue to compete for high positions in the men's air pistol event.

Another experienced face is Ha Minh Thanh. The 41-year-old shooter once won a Silver Medal individually and a Bronze Medal team-team in the 25m rapid fire pistol event at ASIAD 16 in 2010. 4 years later, he continued to have an additional Bronze Medal individually and team-team at ASIAD 17.

Vietnamese shooting towards medals

At ASIAD 20, Vietnamese shooting continues to aim to compete for medals in events where athletes have achieved good results in the past time. In which, Quang Huy aims to defend the No. 1 position in the men's 10m air pistol event, Thu Vinh seeks the first ASIAD medal, and Ha Minh Thanh aims to return to the medal podium after 12 years.

For Ha Minh Thanh, experience competing at many ASIADs is an important advantage. Coach Tran Quoc Cuong highly appreciates the bravery of this shooter when entering major tournaments.

“We appreciate Minh Thanh for his composure and bravery when facing challenges. This is confirmed by the medal results that Minh Thanh has won in many international Games-level tournaments. Minh Thanh is a spiritual support for young shooters in the team” - Mr. Cuong said.

In addition to professional factors, the team pays special attention to psychological work before entering the competition events. This is an important requirement for shooting, when achievements largely depend on the ability to maintain stability and concentration in each shot.

The shooters are fully prepared with training ammunition, combat ammunition and the best guns to use at the Games. Training sessions in Korea and France also help the players have more time to compete, check their performance and adjust techniques before going to Japan.
