Female shooter Trinh Thu Vinh (from Van Du town, Thach Thanh district, Thanh Hoa province) participated in the Olympics for the first time and excellently entered the finals of shooting in two events (women's 10m air pistol and women's 25m sport pistol). In the women's 10m air pistol event, Trinh Thu Vinh won 4th place overall; and in the women's 25m sport pistol event, Thu Vinh stopped at 7th place overall.
Although she did not win a medal at the 2024 Olympic final, when talking about her daughter, Ms. Le Thi Cuong (mother of shooter Trinh Thu Vinh) still showed pride. Because for her and her family, Thu Vinh's reaching the final at the most prestigious tournament on the planet was the result of many years of hard work and training.
“Thu Vinh participated in the tournament, although he did not bring glory to the country, his family and relatives are always proud of him. Because this is the first time Vinh has participated in a world-class tournament and has won a high position in this tournament. We hope that after this tournament, he will continue his training journey both in terms of will and expertise, so that he can continue to participate in the next Olympics with a new mindset and achieve higher results” - Ms. Cuong shared.
Sharing the same proud sentiment as Mrs. Cuong, Mr. Trinh Van Ba (born in 1966, father of shooter Trinh Thu Vinh) said that for many years, he has accompanied and followed his daughter to compete in competitions. He has witnessed his daughter compete in the country and region many times and received many medals of all kinds. However, the recent Olympic competition made him feel the most emotional and awaited. Because during Thu Vinh's competition, he and his family could not watch live, because the TV did not broadcast. Only after a while after the competition ended, did the family receive the results.
“Honestly, when Thu Vinh entered the finals, our family was very happy. At that time, we just thought that if our child competed well and brought glory to the country, it would be a wonderful thing. If the result was not as expected, the family would be very happy. Because Vinh was young and this was his first time participating in a world-class competition, with many strong opponents,” Mr. Ba proudly said.
Had a talent for sports since childhood
Telling more about his daughter, Mr. Trinh Van Ba said that he and his wife have 3 children, Thu Vinh is the second daughter. Vinh's childhood was somewhat difficult when he went to school one day, herded buffaloes the next, and did housework to help his family. When he was in secondary school, his teachers saw that Vinh had a talent for sports, so they let him participate in the school's running competitions and the Phu Dong sports festival.
“In 8th grade, Vinh participated in an athletics competition in Thanh Hoa province. There, seeing his potential, the teachers suggested that his family let him join the police force’s sports team. The family then agreed and he was able to study at a sports school in Tu Son, Bac Ninh,” Mr. Ba recalled.
During his time studying athletics at school, although Vinh tried hard to practice, for several years Vinh did not have outstanding achievements. Also during that time, the teachers realized that Thu Vinh had strengths in shooting, so they transferred Thu Vinh to this sport.
Since switching to shooting, Thu Vinh has participated in many tournaments and achieved many high achievements both domestically and internationally. “Over the years, my family has always accompanied, followed and encouraged Vinh to compete. To date, Vinh has won nearly 40 awards both domestically and regionally. Every time he competes and wins a prize or medal, Vinh brings it home to share the joy with his relatives and neighbors,” said Mr. Ba.
