The injury that happened to Nguyen Xuan Son in the second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final was beyond the imagination of fans and experts. Without using medical terminology, everyone simply understood that the player had broken his shin after trying to compete.
With modern medicine and a team of good doctors, a hospital with adequate specialized equipment in Vietnam combined with active support to ensure the rights of athletes, Nguyen Xuan Son had a quick surgery and is expected to recover well from his injury.
Nguyen Xuan Son’s case has received great attention from the whole society. No one wants athletes to get injured. However, only those in the profession understand the reality that high-performance sports in Vietnam always expect more modern medicine and cooperation programs between leading hospitals and the country’s sports. We always need to ensure the health of athletes.
Remember in 2012, athlete Truong Thanh Hang suffered a broken leg like Nguyen Xuan Son while training on the track. She underwent surgery and tried her best to treat it, but after that she could not return to being the strongest athlete. Truong Thanh Hang retired early. Former athlete Le Thi Hue (wrestling) left the sport due to a rare injury while training.
Most recently, Vietnamese sports witnessed the passing of the late young athlete Nguyen Minh Triet (gymnastics) due to a serious injury during training. The sports industry never abandons athletes when they are injured during training and competition. However, the sports industry cannot decide the recovery of athletes. Modern medicine and treatment methods bring the most positive value in determining the recovery of sports athletes.
In 2025, Vietnam's high-performance sports plan plans to train more than 4,000 athletes (including youth teams and national teams) in sports and certainly no one wants serious injuries to occur.
