Coach Van Sy Son is a familiar face to Nghe An football fans. He was born in 1972, the son of former football star Van Sy Chi and belongs to a family with a famous football tradition, with brothers including Van Sy Ngoc, Van Sy Hung, Van Sy Thuy and Van Sy Linh all wearing the Song Lam Nghe An shirt. In his playing career, he was the captain of the Nghe An team in the period of 2004-2007, with which he won 2 V.League championships, 1 National Cup and 3 National Super Cups.
After retiring, Mr. Van Sy Son has been with Hanoi Club for more than a decade as an assistant coach, before being appointed as head coach of Quang Nam Club in 2022. Under his leadership, Quang Nam won the 2023 National First Division championship, thereby returning to the V.League playground.
