This is the first time Indonesia has hosted this tournament since 2005. Previously, Indonesia was chosen as the host in 2011. However, the tournament was canceled at that time because the renovation of the venue, Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, was not yet completed.
U23 Vietnam is currently the most successful team in the U23 Southeast Asian tournament with 2 consecutive crowns. In 2022, despite the serious impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, U23 Vietnam played bravely and excellently defeated the host team Thailand 1-0 in the final match to win the championship.
A year later, U23 Vietnam continued to affirm their position when successfully defending the championship title after a thrilling victory over Indonesia on penalties.
Looking forward to the 2025 U23 Southeast Asian tournament as well as the two key goals of the year, the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has proactively developed a preparation plan very early.
From 2024 to present, U23 Vietnam has had many training sessions on FIFA Days with the national team, and participated in two international friendly tournaments U22 CFA Team China 2024 and 2025 with the participation of many quality opponents.
VFF and coach Kim Sang-sik have created conditions for young players with potential to compete and accumulate experience early, in which some excellent players were tested at the national team level and left their mark at the ASEAN Cup 2024.
