The moment of collision in the middle of a holiday storm
In the 90+2 minute of the match, Nguyen Hai Long scored the 3rd goal for the Vietnam National Team. The goal increased the total score of the two matches to 5-3, almost decisively winning the championship for the Vietnamese team. Right after the goal, the atmosphere at Rajamangala Stadium exploded. Vietnamese players celebrate, the technical area also bursts into tears. I and many reporters immediately moved to take a photo of this important moment. While moving to get a more favorable position, I collided with a colleague who was also moving from behind.
The collision seemed minor but caused my left eyelid to hit the body of the camera I was wearing and bleed quite a lot. However, because I didn't want to miss important frames, I tried to hold the camera and continued to press.
Some colleagues realized that I was injured, someone suggested taking me to first aid, but I refused because at that time the team was still celebrating and the award ceremony was about to take place.
After taking a series of celebratory photos and moving back to the middle of the courtyard waiting for the award ceremony, a Thai medical staff recognized my condition and quickly assisted. I was taken to the medical area right on the field. After the medical team treated the wound, I was advised to check more carefully when I returned to Vietnam and quickly returned to the factory.
I returned to the border area when the trophy awarding ceremony was about to begin. With a white ribbon on my eyes and a ribbon behind my head, I continued working until the ceremony ended. The final photos of that evening were taken in an uncomfortable state of health, but I did not miss the important moments.
Unforgettable experience
In many years of pursuing the sports field, I have worked in many major tournaments in the region and in the country. There are tournaments with harsh weather, not short of times having to take photos in storms or crowding among fans. However, this was the first time I had an injury while working.
bleeding and light dizziness in the middle of the match was not easy. But in a specific situation, I was forced to make a quick decision between continuing to work or stopping. With the nature of my career, I chose to stay.
I don't think I am brave or sacrifice. I just did what any reporter would do in a similar situation. Our job is to capture moments of high information and emotion value, especially in such historic matches.
The victory of the Vietnam team over Thailand away from home was a special event. I believe that the photos taken at that time still have their own value. The photos sent to the newsroom were used on print and electronic channels, serving readers on schedule.
When I look back at this event, I consider it a memorable memory in my career. Each business trip is an experience, and sometimes it is unpredictable to have all the risks. The important thing is to stay calm, focused and responsible in any arising situations.
