The event is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation (HBSF), gathering top players from 19 countries and territories around the world. This year, the tournament impressed with the organization of the competition with a meticulously designed and professional competition area, applying modern technology, electronic screens... as well as a live system for all matches from Korea.
The Ho Chi Minh City World Cup 3-cushion Billiards Carom is a prestigious tournament, one of the most prestigious stages in the world of 3-cushion Carom, organized annually by the World Carom Billiards Association (UMB), alternating with many countries in different continents.
After being held 7 times since 2015 (2020 and 2021 postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic), Ho Chi Minh City World Cup has recorded 2 times of being crowned by Vietnamese players, namely Tran Quyet Chien (2018) and Tran Duc Minh (2024).
On the opening day of competition on May 19, the first qualifying round had the participation of 18 Vietnamese players. Notably, in Group A, veteran general Ly The Vinh will compete with Litsa Mavridlou - a beautiful female player from Greece, originally from pool and who won the national championship.
Litsa Mavridoglou has switched to 3-cushion carom competition and has participated in the 2024 Women's 3-cushion carom World Championship as well as several international competitions, competing with male players. However, she has not left much of an impression in the new genre. The remaining player in Group A is Tran Quang Hung.
In addition to Ly The Vinh, this competition day will have the participation of 17 other home athletes. Among them are some interesting groups when Vietnamese players will compete with international "unknown".
It can be mentioned that in Group B, Nguyen Nhu Le will face Mauricio Aguilar (Colombia) and Jorge Costa ( portugal). In Group F, Nguyen Dinh Quoc will meet Osawa Takashi (Japan) and Lucas Egert (denmark) respectively. In Group G, Ngo Le Duy will face Fahri Gunaydin (Türkiye) and Takamasa Hagiwara (Japan) or in Group H, Dinh Quang Hai will meet Qian Jiale (China) and Aziz Kilicaslan (Türkiye).
The player born in 2003 from An Giang Nguyen Hoai Phong will face a big challenge in his first World Cup participation when in Group M, a group featuring Henk Overmars (Netherlands) and Masayuki Sawaoka (Japan).
In the first qualifying round, 48 players were divided into 16 groups, competing in a round-robin, reaching 30 points to select the top 16 players in the groups to continue.
