Overcoming opponents in the group stage and semi-finals, the Vietnamese and Thai teams will meet in the two finals of the 2024 ASEAN Cup. This is considered the "arch-rival" match of Southeast Asian football for many years.
Previously, in the semi-finals, the Vietnamese team defeated Singapore 2-0 in the first leg and 3-1 in the second leg. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team did not have much trouble against this opponent throughout the two matches, although there were some difficulties in the early stages of each half.
Meanwhile, the Thai team struggled to overcome the Philippines after 2 matches. In the first leg of the semi-final, coach Ishii's team unexpectedly lost 1-2 to their opponent. In the second leg, in more than 90 minutes of official play, the team from the Golden Temple could only win with a score of 2-1, thereby tying the total score of the 2 matches at 3-3.
The two teams entered extra time to determine the winner and had to wait for Suphanat to shine for the "War Elephants" to be able to seal a 3-1 victory (total score 4-3) to win a ticket to the final in a dramatic way.
