From April 5 to 8 in Selangor state, SEAGF held the first Southeast Asian sports council meeting in 2026 with the participation of representatives of countries in the region, including the Vietnamese delegation.
At the working sessions, representatives of countries exchanged many contents related to the organization of SEA Games 34, including sports competition programs, medical work, doping prevention, promoting gender equality in sports, as well as media and television issues.
Representatives of the Malaysian Olympic Committee also briefly reported on the preparation progress for the Games. Accordingly, the initial list includes 38 sports divided into 4 competition groups. In which, the basic sports group (group 1A) includes athletics and water sports; group 1B includes many Olympic sports such as archery, badminton, basketball, cycling, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, hockey, judo, rugby, sailing, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, ice skating.
Group 2 includes sports such as billiards & snooker, bowling, boxing, karate, sepak takraw, squash, wushu, cricket, floor ball, netball, muay, pets, pencak silat and e-sports. Group 3 is expected to include grassball (lawn bowls) and water skiing.
According to the organizing committee's plan, SEA Games 34 will take place in 4 locations including Pulau Pinang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Sarawak. Among them, Sarawak is expected to host the most competitions.
The organizers said that the preparation progress of facilities is currently about 70-80% of the volume. However, some regional sports federations and associations are still continuing to propose adding more sports to the official program of the Games.
As expected, SEA Games 34 will take place from September 18 to 29, 2027.
