Mike Tyson lost to Jake Paul by unanimous decision in a fight that took place on the afternoon of November 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Tyson, 58, is still fit and active. After the fight, he shared details about the medical complications he had been experiencing over the past few months. That was also the reason why the fight with Jake Paul had to be postponed, instead of taking place as scheduled in early July.
“This is one of those situations where you lose but you win in a different way. I'm grateful for last night. I have no regrets about stepping into the ring for the last time.
I almost died in June. I had 8 blood transfusions, lost half my blood and lost 11kg in the hospital. I had to fight to be healthy, now I won.
For my kids to see me stand in the ring and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age, in front of a packed stadium, is an experience no man could ask for more. Thank you," Tyson wrote on his personal page.
The match between Tyson (58 years old) and Paul (27 years old) was quite even in the first two rounds, but Tyson's speed slowed down significantly at the beginning of the third round. Sensing his opponent's slowing pace, Paul took advantage to win.
Many criticized Paul for taking on a boxing legend 31 years his senior. However, Paul gave Tyson a chance to earn a $20 million purse. The fight also had rules that ensured the legend would not be seriously injured.
