Regarding the image of swimmer Vo Thi My Tien burst into tears on the podium to receive a medal after the women's individual 400m event at the 33rd SEA Games, the leaders of the Vietnamese sports delegation had a direct discussion with the leaders of the Vietnam Water Sports Association to clarify and agree on the viewpoint in supporting athletes.
The incident happened on the evening of December 13, when My Tien had just won a silver medal and completed the award ceremony. In the moment on the podium to receive the medal, a leader of the Water Sports Association approached the female athlete to discuss. Immediately after that, the swimmer born in 2005 could not hide her emotions and burst into tears, in contrast to the happy mood just a few seconds before.
According to experts, the SEA Games is an arena with great pressure, especially for young athletes who are expecting results. Since Anh Vien retired, Vietnamese women's swimming has not won any more gold medals in women's individual events, making My Tien, despite only 20 years old, the top hope of the team.
As soon as the information was received, the leaders of the Vietnamese sports delegation proactively worked with the Association of Water Sports to discuss, learn from experience and agree on how to behave while accompanying athletes at the congress. The general viewpoint is emphasized that it is necessary to put the psychological and spiritual factors of athletes first, especially in sensitive moments after competition.
The representative of the Vietnamese sports delegation said that the heads of delegations, team leaders as well as representatives of federations and associations need to show sharing, encouragement and companionship with athletes not only during competition but throughout the training and preparation process for the SEA Games.
The 33rd SEA Games is considered a big playground, where athletes face pressure to achieve results, expectations and fierce competition. Creating an active competition environment, paying due attention to spiritual factors is considered an important condition for athletes to maintain stability and best promote their professional abilities.
The Vietnamese sports delegation affirmed that it will continue to closely coordinate with federations and associations to ensure the best competition conditions, thereby helping athletes feel secure in their efforts and completing their tasks at the 33rd SEA Games.
