Therefore, the disappointment of the North African players in the loss to Iran is understandable. Some even shed tears as if it were Morocco's last match at the 2018 World Cup.
Ironically, Morocco's defeat, and Iran's second win in World Cup history since 1998, was not decided by an Iranian player.
Instead, it was Mr. Aziz Bouhaddouz of Morocco who broke the hearts of the home team's fans when he headed the ball into the net in the 95th minute.
However, while the Iranian team was happy with the result, striker Reza Ghoochannejhad made a noble gesture when comforting the opponent. On Instagram, he sent a meaningful message to Bouhaddouz, all to help him stand firm.
This is Ghoochannejhad's message:
@aziz_bouhaddouz: I don't know you but in life, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. But don't let this own goal slow you down.
We are all professional players and this is part of football. I am very happy and proud of my team, my country, but I also wish him all the best in his career.
