Nguyen Thi Oanh is the only representative of the Vietnamese athletics team to compete in the final of the 3,000m women's event of the 2026 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships being held in India. The final event took place late on February 7.
The entire event had 10 athletes participating. Nguyen Thi Oanh focused on competing right from the start.
She actively maintained her speed to always be in the top group of each lap. However, the opponents are all people with qualifications, maintaining good tactics. Therefore, Nguyen Thi Oanh faced fierce competition and could not create her breakthrough.
At the end of the competition, Nguyen Thi Oanh finished 5th with a time of 9 minutes 21 seconds 13. This is not a good result for Nguyen Thi Oanh.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese athletics team said that this is a stage of physical training, so athletes cannot have a breakthrough.
A day earlier, Nguyen Thi Oanh failed in the 1,500m event because she only finished 7th. For experts, Oanh's failure to achieve a medal result at the 2026 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships is something that the Vietnamese Athletics Team must learn from.
On February 8th, the tournament will close. On the final day of competition, the Vietnamese athletics team has Bui Thi Kim Anh and Duong Thi Thao participating in the women's high jump event.
