In the race held at the 33rd SEA Games, Nguyen Thi Oanh quickly took the lead right after starting and maintained the advantage throughout the competition.
The Vietnamese female player controlled her running beat well, overcoming obstacles accurately to finish first with a time of 10 minutes and 13 seconds 75.
Teammates Doan Thu Hang finished second, bringing home another silver medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation.
This is the 3rd time at the 33rd SEA Games that Nguyen Thi Oanh and her teammates have occupied the top 2 positions in a competition. Previously, a similar scenario had occurred in the 5,000m and 10,000m distances, when Oanh won the gold medal and Le Thi Tuyet came in second, showing the dominance of Vietnamese women's athletics in the long-distance running events.
The gold medal in the 3,000m obstacle course event is also the 15th SEA Games gold medal in Nguyen Thi Oanh's career. This achievement helped her equal the records of 2 Southeast Asian athletics legends, Jennifer Tin Lay (Myanmar) and Elma Muros (Philippines).
15 SEA Games gold medals won by Nguyen Thi Oanh in the 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m and 3,000m obstacle course events through many events. With this historic milestone, the runner born in 1995 continues to be one of the most successful athletes in Vietnamese sports at the SEA Games, second only to Nguyen Thi Anh Vien in the total number of gold medals.
