On June 14, the Vietnamese Gymnastics Team went to China to compete in the 2026 Asian Championship and also the ASIAD 20 qualifiers. Athlete Nguyen Van Khanh Phong is named in the competition list.
In this competition, in addition to Khanh Phong, the coaching board has registered men's team members including Xuan Thien, Dinh Vuong, Hai Khang, Phuoc Hai, Bao Phuc, Halimyan Kasim.
Last year, the Vietnamese Gymnastics Team participated in the 2025 Asian Championships but only won 1 bronze medal in the men's events. The achievement belonged to athlete Xuan Thien in the men's singles equestrian event.
At that time, Khanh Phong was expected to win a medal in the tournament. Despite trying to show his best technique in the men's singles rings performance, however, Khanh Phong did not win a medal.

With this year's Asian Championship, Khanh Phong is very confident that he will change his performance. The male player has focused on preparing before leaving to compete and maintains his excitement ready to compete at this time.
Last May, Khanh Phong achieved an important result: a silver medal in the men's wreath event at the 2026 Challenge World Cup in Uzbekistan.
In the squad of Vietnamese gymnastics players who performed in Uzbekistan, Khanh Phong was the only person to win a medal.
2 years ago, Khanh Phong won a silver medal in his event at the 2024 Asian Championships. A year earlier, the male athlete also won a silver medal at ASIAD 19 (held in 2023 in China).
The coaching staff of the Vietnam National Gymnastics Team believes that not only Khanh Phong, but all athletes registered to compete in the 2026 Asian Championship are determined to show their highest form.
The tournament is considered a ASIAD 20 qualifying round to award official slots to athletes participating in the Games to be held in September in Japan. Therefore, no Vietnamese men's gymnastics team wants to miss ASIAD 20.
According to regulations, teams (in team points) winning overall rankings from 1st to 10th at the 2026 Asian Championship will be awarded 5 slots to participate in ASIAD 20.
Before leaving for China to compete in the 2026 Asian Championship, Khanh Phong once expressed that he had been and was preparing the most thoroughly in terms of technique through each training session, so he would minimize errors when competing officially.
The 2026 Asian Championship taking place in China will compete in men's events from June 18 to June 21. At the same time, the tournament will organize events for the Asian Youth Championship. After that, the women's events of the 2026 Asian Championship will be held from June 25 to June 28.
