After the final whistle, Nguyen Hue pedestrian street seemed to burst into red. Thousands of fans shouted "Vietnam", waved national flags and shared the joy after the Vietnamese team won 2-0 against Thailand.
Immediately after the match, the atmosphere on the pedestrian street became even more exciting. Cheers, drums and cheering songs rang out throughout the area, while fans continuously waved flags, took pictures and shared victory celebration moments.
Mr. Vu Minh - living in Hoa Hung ward - was present at Nguyen Hue pedestrian street early to join his group of friends in the atmosphere of cheering for the team. According to him, the moment the team scored a goal made the whole area explode.
The atmosphere is too wonderful. Every time the Vietnamese team scores, everyone around jumps up, hugs each other and shouts'Vietnam'. The 2-0 victory really makes us burst into tears" - Mr. Minh shared.
Not only groups of young people, but also many families and elderly people were present at the pedestrian street to watch and cheer for the team. The diversity of ages further created an atmosphere of solidarity and excitement in the victory night.
Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc - living in Saigon ward - said that what impressed her the most was the image of fans of many ages cheering together.
There are families bringing young children, there are young people and elderly people. Everyone does not know each other, but when the team wins, they all share the same joy. That is a very special feeling" - Ms. Ngoc said.
The 2-0 victory right on the away field helped the Vietnamese team create a great advantage before the second leg. After the match, joy continued to spread on many streets in the center of Ho Chi Minh City when fans took to the streets to celebrate.
The second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final will take place at 8:00 PM on August 26th, at My Dinh Stadium (Hanoi). This will be an opportunity for the Vietnamese team to complete their journey to conquer the championship in front of the cheers of home fans.
